Primary text

The follower must stop reading Al-Fatiha immediately upon hearing the Imam's recitation and must remain silent to listen. This ruling is established based on the command of Allah the Almighty: "And when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention" (Quran 7:204), and the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "And when he recites, then be silent."
