If a follower who was previously behind performs the prostration of forgetfulness along with the Imam (after the taslīm) and then has to make up the missed portion of the prayer, must they repeat the prostration?
Chapter on the Two Prostrations of Forgetfulness
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
There are two narrations concerning this: The first states that the prostration must be repeated because the obligation for the follower's own error remains, and the prostration performed with the Imam was merely an act of following, not absolving the individual obligation, similar to the final Tashahhud. The second narration states that no second prostration is required because the Imam's prostration completed the prayer for the follower and provided the necessary rectification, thus serving as sufficient atonement, analogous to a follower who errs alone.
