If a condition for the Imam's prayer, such as the sutrah or facing the Qibla, is lacking, the followers are not excused. This is because these conditions are usually apparent and not easily missed, unlike states of impurity or minor uncleanness (najasah). If the Imam's prayer is invalidated due to omitting a pillar (rukn), such as abandoning recitation or the opening Takbir (Takbirat al-Ihram), the followers must also repeat their prayer. Imam Ahmad explicitly stated this ruling for omitting recitation and the opening Takbir.
