If a group has one garment and time is scarce, who should pray in the garment first?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If time is severely limited, only one person may pray in the garment while the rest pray naked. When the owner of the garment is present, it is recommended that they lead the prayer, standing in front of the others. If the leader is illiterate and the followers can recite (Qurra'), the rest should pray in congregation as previously established. If the owner refuses to lend the garment, or time is too short for more than one prayer, the recommended action is for the owner to lead the prayer.
Supporting text
If the owner is not present and the time is tight, the group should pray one after another, unless they fear missing the time, in which case one prays while the others remain naked. If there are women present when the garment is to be lent, it is recommended to prioritize them because covering the nakedness of women is more emphasized. If the time becomes tight and a reciter (Qari') is present, it is recommended to prioritize them to lead the prayer. If the garment is not owned by any of them, the matter is decided by drawing lots.
