Is the inclusion of 'wa barakatuh' necessary in the final Taslim?

Chapter on the Description of Prayer

Book of Prayer

Book 3 · Issue 2 · Bab 5

Primary text

The inclusion of 'wa barakatuh' (and His Blessings) is not obligatory because mentioning the Mercy (rahmah) is sufficient reinforcement of the praise (thana'), and adding 'wa barakatuh' is like adding to a required statement without necessity.

Supporting text

Ibn Aqil asserts that omitting 'wa rahmatullah' is invalid because the authentic narrations from the Prophet show he used to say 'As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah'. Moreover, since the Taslim in prayer is mentioned alongside mercy, it is not valid without mentioning mercy, similar to how sending peace upon the Prophet in the Tashahhud requires mentioning mercy.
