Is the insane person (majnun) obligated to perform acts of worship or make up what was missed during their insanity?

Primary text
The insane person is not accountable (mukallaf) and is not obligated to make up (qada') what they missed while insane. This ruling applies unless they regain sanity during the time of a prayer, in which case they become like a child who reaches puberty. This ruling is established by the Prophet's saying: "The pen has been lifted from three: the sleeper until he wakes, the child until he reaches maturity, and the madman until he becomes sane." This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi, who classified it as hasan (good). The rationale is that the duration of insanity is often prolonged, making the obligation of making up acts difficult, thus warranting exemption.
