Is it disliked for a woman to wear a niqab while praying?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is disliked for a woman to wear a niqab while praying because it obstructs the direct contact of her forehead and nose with the place of prostration. This practice is analogous to a man covering his mouth, for which the Prophet, peace be upon him, prohibited. Ibn Abd al-Barr stated that there is a consensus that a woman must uncover her face during prayer and while in the state of Ihram.
