Is it permissible to delay the Asr prayer past its preferred time without a valid excuse?

It is impermissible to delay the Asr prayer beyond the preferred time without a valid excuse due to explicit prophetic warnings. The Prophet peace be upon him stated: 'That is the prayer of the hypocrites... he sits until the sun turns yellow, being between the two horns of Satan, or upon the two horns of Satan, then he stands and pecks four times, remembering Allah little therein' (Muslim, Abu Dawud). Permitting such delay would negate the severe censure associated with it, which is attributed to the hypocrites.
