Primary text

There is no disagreement that the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) is permissible after the Asr prayer until the sun declines and after the Fajr prayer until sunrise. Scholars agree on the permissibility of the funeral prayer after Asr and Fajr. Al-Mundhir reported a consensus (Ijma') among Muslims regarding the funeral prayer after Asr and Fajr.

It is not permissible to perform the funeral prayer during the three prohibited times mentioned in the hadith of 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir. Al-Nawawi, based on a narration from the Prophet (peace be upon him) concerning the three prohibited times, linked prayer with burial, indicating the intention was the funeral prayer, which is prohibited along with burial during those specific times.
