Is it permissible to recite only a portion of a Surah from its beginning?

There is no disagreement that reciting only a portion of a Surah from its beginning is not disliked. The evidence for this permissibility is the report that the Prophet, peace be upon him, recited from Surah Al-Mu'minun up to the mention of Musa and Harun, then due to a cough, he bowed and recited Surah Al-A'raf in Maghrib prayer, dividing it over two Rak'ahs.
