Is it recommended for the caller to prayer (Mu'adhin) to stand on an elevated place?
Chapter on Adhan
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is recommended that the Adhan (call to prayer) be made from an elevated place so that the voice carries further effectively. This practice is supported by the narration from Abu Dawud, relating from Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, that a woman from Banu Najjar stated her house was the tallest around the mosque, and Bilal used to perform the Adhan for Fajr from it. Bilal would arrive before dawn, sit on the roof observing the dawn, and upon seeing it, he would stretch and supplicate: "O Allah, I seek Your aid and relief against Quraysh, that they establish Your religion." Then he would call the Adhan.
