It is recommended to gather one's family and others upon completing the recitation of the Qur'an, as well as for other occasions, for the purpose of attending the supplication (Dua). Ahmad reported that Anas ibn Malik would gather his family and children when he completed the Qur'an. This practice is also narrated from Ibn Mas'ud and others. Ibn Shahin narrated a version that traces this practice back to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
