It is not recommended to exceed two muezzins because the established practice from the Prophet, peace be upon him, was that he had two muezzins: Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum.
Supporting text
It becomes permissible to have more than two muezzins if necessity demands it. Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, is narrated to have had four muezzins.
