It is recommended (*sunnah*) for anyone entering the mosque not to sit until they pray two rak'ahs. This is based on the report from Abu Qatadah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'When one of you enters the mosque, let him not sit until he prays two rak'ahs.' This hadith is agreed upon (Muttafaqun 'alayh).
