Primary text

Killing a snake or a scorpion is permissible during prayer. This is the opinion of al-Hasan, al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and the companions of the opinion (Ashab al-Ra'y). The justification is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) command to kill the two black creatures in prayer: the snake and the scorpion, as narrated by Abu Dawud. Furthermore, Ibn 'Umar was seen in prayer striking a feather he perceived as a scorpion with his sandal.

Al-Nakha'i disliked killing them during prayer, but this view is unfounded based on the aforementioned Hadith.
