What should a latecomer (*Masbuq*) who joins the Imam recite during the intermediate sitting if the Imam sits for the final *Tashahhud*?

If the latecomer joins the Imam and the Imam sits for the final *Tashahhud*, the latecomer should not add to the first *Tashahhud* but must repeat it. Ahmad explicitly stated this concerning one who joins for one Rak'ah: he repeats the *Tashahhud* but does not recite the blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) nor offer any supplication normally reserved for the final *Tashahhud*, because those elements are intrinsically linked to the sitting immediately preceding the conclusion of prayer (Taslim), which is not the case here.
