If a layperson (Ami) is praying with two scholars whose independent judgments on a matter are equal in his estimation, whom should he follow?

If two scholars whose judgments on a matter (or the Qibla) are equal in the estimation of the follower, he has the discretion to follow whomever he chooses, analogous to the layperson's position regarding scholars in other legal rulings.
