Does the level of obscurity or difficulty in discerning the Qibla affect the ruling regarding prayer reperformance?
Chapter on Facing the Qiblah
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
There is no distinction whether the evidence pointing to the Qibla was manifest and clear but became confused, or whether it was obscured by clouds or something else hiding it from view. This is evidenced by the traditions where the signs were hidden by clouds, and the companions were not required to repeat the prayer. In both scenarios, the person performed what was commanded at the time and was incapable of facing the Qibla, thus equating the two instances in requiring no reperformance.
