How should menstrual blood stains on clothing be handled before prayer?
Chapter on Praying with Impurity and Other Matters
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If menstrual blood is seen on a garment, the ruling is to scrape it off, and then prayer may be performed in that garment. This is based on the narration from Asma, daughter of Abu Bakr, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about menstrual blood on clothing and commanded to scrape it off and pray in it. Another narration specifies that if one sees purity, they should examine the garment; if blood is seen, they should scrape it with a bit of water, sprinkle what they do not see as blood, and then pray in it, as narrated by Abu Dawud.
