Is the narration concerning blowing in prayer establishing nullification valid?
Chapter on the Two Prostrations of Forgetfulness
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The narration indicating that blowing invalidates the prayer based on the statement from Ibn Abbas, "Whoever blows during prayer has spoken," is deemed not firmly established by Ibn al-Mundhir. The correct position is that blowing does not invalidate the prayer unless two letters are formed. This is supported by the narration of Abdullah, who reported that when the sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the Prophet (PBUH) blew "Af, af" during his prostration, as narrated by Abu Dawud. This Hadith implies that simple blowing, even if audible, does not nullify the prayer unless it constitutes articulated speech (two letters).
