Primary text

The ruling concerning the glorification in prostration is the same as that for the bowing (Ruku). The basis for this is the Hadith of Uqbah ibn Amir, where the Prophet, peace be upon him, said after the revelation of 'Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High' (Quran 87:1), to 'Make it in your prostrations.' Ibn Mas'ud narrated that the Prophet commanded, 'When one of you prostrates, let him say: Subhana Rabbi Al-A'la (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High) three times, and that is the minimum.' Hudhayfah heard the Prophet saying this three times. The ruling regarding the number and length of prostration follows what was explained regarding the Ruku.

While three times is mentioned as the minimum, some narrations of Ibn Majah and Abu Dawud mention the command without specifying 'three times'.
