Must one perform ablution or Tayammum if they hear the prostration verse while not in a state of ritual purity?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If one hears the verse of prostration while not ritually pure, neither ablution nor dry ablution (Tayammum) is required for that specific prostration. This is because the prostration is tied to a preceding condition (purity), and if that condition is missed, the prostration is not performed, analogous to one who hears the verse during prayer but fails to prostrate, in which case they do not make up the prostration afterward.

Al-Nakha'i opined that one should perform Tayammum and then prostrate. Another reported opinion states that one should perform Wudu (ablution) and then prostrate, a view held by Al-Thawri, Ishaq, and the Ashab al-Ra'y (Hanafi school).
