It is recommended to repel anyone or anything, whether large or small, human or animal, that passes between the hands of the praying person. This is supported by the Prophet’s action of repelling 'Umar and Zaynab when they were small. Furthermore, a tradition narrates that the Prophet, peace be upon him, continued to repel a grazing animal until its belly was pressed against the barrier behind it, causing it to pass behind him.
