The passage of someone in front of the worshipper diminishes the prayer (*yunaqqisu al-salat*) but does not nullify it (*la yaqta'uha*). Imam Ahmad stated that the worshipper loses something from their prayer, but it is not cut off. Ibn Mas'ud narrated that such passage reduces the prayer by half. However, the diminution in the prayer's reward or status should be attributed to the one who was able to repel the passerby but failed to do so. If the worshipper exerted effort to repel the passerby, the prayer remains complete, as the defect is not attributable to the worshipper's negligence.
