Primary text

Slight elevation is permissible, based on the hadith of Sahl, because the reason for the prohibition (raising the gaze excessively) applies to significant elevation. Thus, slight elevation, such as the steps of the pulpit, is permissible as detailed in Sahl's hadith, achieved by balancing the narrations.

Supporting text

It is suggested that the Prophet's action on the pulpit might be specific to him, as he performed an act and then prohibited it for others. Furthermore, the Prophet did not complete the entire prayer on the pulpit, as his prostration and sitting occurred on the ground, unlike matters where elevation is maintained throughout.
