Primary text

Prayer is prohibited following the Asr prayer until the sun has completely set. Evidence for this includes the statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "No prayer after the Asr prayer until the sun sets," according to the consensus of Shaykhayn (Bukhari and Muslim). Furthermore, 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade prayer when the sun inclines towards setting until it sets. Amr ibn 'Abasah narrated that one must cease prayer after Asr until sunset because the sun sets between the two horns of the devil, and it is at this time that disbelievers prostrate to it.
