Is prayer valid if a person who has a garment prays naked when another person has a garment?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If among naked individuals one possesses a garment, that individual is obligated to pray in it because they are capable of covering their nakedness. If that person lends the garment and then prays naked, the prayer is invalid due to abandoning an obligation.
Supporting text
It is recommended that the owner of the garment lend it to others after their own prayer so they may pray in it, based on the saying of Allah the Almighty: {Cooperate in righteousness and piety} (Quran 5:2). However, this lending is not obligatory, unlike when one has surplus food and finds someone in dire need; in the latter case, giving the food is obligatory due to the state of necessity.
