Primary text

Deliberate recitation (Tartil) is superior to rapid recitation involving haste. This is mandated by the Almighty: "And recite the Quran in measured tones (Tartila)" (Quran 73:4). Aisha reported that she did not know of the Prophet of Allah completing the entire Quran in one night, and she also stated that the Messenger of Allah did not complete the Quran in less than three days.

Supporting text

Ibn Mas'ud stated that reciting the Quran in less than three days resembles the recitation of poetry or the scattered prose of inferior dates.
