Primary text

The preferred formulation for the Iqamah, based on the narration of 'Abdullah ibn Zayd, is the same as the Adhan except for the addition of "Qad qamat al-Salah, Qad qamat al-Salah" once, after "Hayya 'ala al-Falah," and the phrase "La ilaha ill-Allah" is only said once at the end. This is supported by the explicit description in the narration concerning 'Abdullah ibn Zayd's vision regarding the Iqamah.

Supporting text

Abu Hanifah holds that the Iqamah is like the Adhan, but with the phrase "Qad qamat al-Salah" repeated twice, citing the tradition where the person instructed in the Adhan repeated the formula when establishing the prayer. Malik holds that the Iqamah is ten phrases, reciting "Qad qamat al-Salah" only once, based on the narration that the Adhan should be recited in pairs (Shif'ah) and the Iqamah in odd numbers (Witr). The argument against Abu Mahdhurah's narration regarding the formulation of the Iqamah is that the Tarji' (repetition of Shahadatayn) in the Iqamah is abandoned by consensus.
