Primary text

It is recommended to create an interval between the Adhan and the Iqamah sufficient for performing ablution (Wudu) and praying two Rak'ahs, allowing people to prepare. For the Maghrib (sunset) prayer specifically, a light sitting is recommended during this interval. The justification for this delay is based on the command given to Bilal to allow time for an eater to finish his meal, for one attending to nature's call to finish, and for a person to complete their business. Furthermore, it is reported that the sitting of the caller between the Adhan and Iqamah for Maghrib is a Sunnah.

Supporting text

Abu Hanifa and Al-Shafi'i are reported to hold that the specific sitting interval for Maghrib is not legislatively recommended (Sunnah).
