Primary text

The Sunnah, according to our Imam (Ahmad), is *Tawarruk* in the final *Tashahhud*, which is also the position of Malik and Al-Shafi'i. The method involves setting the left sole of the foot under the right thigh, resting both buttocks on the ground, and keeping the right foot upright. This is based on the narration from Abu Humaid stating that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) reached the Rak'ah where he would complete his prayer, he put his left leg behind him and sat *Mutawarrikan* on his left hip. This explicitly differentiates the two sittings and establishes an addition that must be followed. The evidence used for the first sitting does not conflict with this, as Abu Humaid specified that the spreading (*Iftirash*) occurred in the first *Tashahhud*, and *Tawarruk* in the second.

Supporting text

Al-Thawri and the Companions of Opinion maintain sitting with *Iftirash* (spreading the left foot) as in the first sitting, based on the hadiths of Wa'il ibn Hujr and Abu Humaid regarding the general description of the Prophet's sitting. Regarding the specifics of *Tawarruk*, the right foot is kept upright, the left sole is placed under the right thigh and shin, and both buttocks rest on the ground. It is also reported that the left foot is passed out from one side, and the right foot is kept upright, with the toes pointing towards the Qibla.
