What is the prescribed posture for women during prostration (sujud) in prayer?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The fundamental rule for women in prayer is that the rulings established for men apply to them because the addresses of the Sharia encompass both genders. However, a difference arises regarding the abandonment of *tajafi* (sitting with separated thighs), because a woman's 'awrah (intimate parts) are more extensive. Therefore, it is recommended for her to draw herself together to ensure greater covering, as there is a concern that something might become exposed during *tajafi*.

Concerning the sitting posture (*iftirash*), Ahmad stated that *sadl* (letting one's garment hang down without distinguishing the legs) is more pleasing to him, a view chosen by Al-Khallal.
