What is the proper way to beautify the voice during Quran recitation?

Beautifying the Quran with one's voice means making it sound good without affectation or forced effort. It is reported that the best reciters are those whose recitation evokes a sense of awe and fear of Allah (khashyah) in the listener. Furthermore, it is narrated that the Quran was revealed with sadness, and thus it should be recited with a demeanor reflecting sorrow or solemnity.
