Is prostration (Sujud) recommended for the reader and the listener of the Quranic verse requiring prostration?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
Prostration upon hearing the verse requiring prostration (Sujud al-Tilawah) is established for both the reader and the intentional listener. This is supported by Hadiths narrated by Bukhari, Muslim, and Abu Dawud, recounting that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would recite a Surah outside of formal prayer, prostrate, and the companions would prostrate with him until there was no space left for their foreheads. No dispute is known regarding this specific point involving the reader and the attentive listener.
