It is recommended to pray four rak'ahs before Asr, based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him: 'May Allah have mercy on the one who prays four before Asr.' This was narrated by Abu Dawud. Al-Ali, describing the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, mentioned four before Asr, separating every two rak'ahs with a Taslim to the near angels, prophets, and those Muslims who followed them, as narrated by Ibn Majah.
