What is the recommended augmentation to the phrase "Allāhumma Rabbanā wa lakal-ḥamdu, mil'as-samāwāti wa mil'ul-arḍi wa mil'a mā shi'ta min shay'in ba'du" (Our Lord, and to You is all praise, filling the heavens and filling the earth, and filling whatever else You will)?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is recommended to add the phrase "Ahlath-thanā'i wal-majd" (Worthy of praise and glory) after the standard completion phrase in remembrance after standing from Ruku' (bowing). This is the choice favored by Abu Hafs and is considered correct. The evidence for this is the narration from Abu Sa'id where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Our Lord, and to You is all praise, filling the heavens and filling the earth, filling whatever else You will, worthy of praise and glory, the truest saying of a servant, and all of us are Your servants: none can withhold what You give, none can give what You withhold, and wealth/fortune profits not the wealthy against You from You." This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Athram. Furthermore, there is narration from Ibn Abi Awfa that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to add: "O Allah, purify me with snow, hail, and cold water. O Allah, purify me from sins and mistakes just as the white garment is purified from the dirt." This was narrated by Muslim.

There is a report from Ahmad where he stated that he prefers to stop at "mā shi'ta min shay'in ba'du" (whatever else You will), implying that adding "Ahlath-thanā'i wal-majd" is not recommended specifically in obligatory prayers, based on the majority of sound hadiths not containing the extra phrase.
