Primary text

The poor can achieve spiritual ranks surpassing those who spend in wealth by performing specific recitations after every prayer. This involves reciting Tasbih (glorification), Tahmid (praise), and Takbir (magnification) thirty-three times each. When the matter was clarified to the Prophet, peace be upon him, he directed them to say: "SubhanAllah, wal-hamdulillah, wallahu akbar" in alternation until all three phrases total thirty-three times.

Supporting text

There is a variation in practice regarding the number distribution, where some initially understood it as reciting SubhanAllah thirty-three times, Alhamdulillah thirty-three times, and Allahu Akbar thirty-four times. However, the final instruction was to recite them interleaved until the total count for each reaches thirty-three.
