Primary text

If a person says the concluding salutation (salam) while something remains of their prayer due to forgetfulness, they must complete the remaining parts of the prayer, then offer the final testimony (tashahhud) and salutation. Following this, they must perform two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujud as-sahw) with a tashahhud and salutation. This ruling is supported by the actions narrated from Abu Hurairah and Imran ibn Husayn concerning the Prophet, peace be upon him. The essential condition for this application is that the person remembers before an undue delay occurs and before their ablution is nullified.
