What is the reward associated with performing the Adhan (call to prayer)?
Chapter on Adhan
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
Performing the Adhan carries immense virtue and great reward. Evidence for this is found in the narration from Abu Hurayrah, where the Messenger of Allah stated that if people knew the merit in the call to prayer and the first row, they would draw lots to secure them. Furthermore, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported the Prophet saying that the caller's voice, whether heard by Jinn, humans, or anything else, will testify for him on the Day of Resurrection. Muawiyah also conveyed that the Messenger of Allah said, "The callers (Mu'adhdhinin) will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection." Finally, a narration from Ibn Umar mentions that three types of people will be on mounds of musk on the Day of Resurrection, envied by those of earlier and later generations, one of whom is the man who calls the five prayers every day and night.
