What is the ruling for a blind person or a Muqallid who is a traveler and lacks means to determine the Qibla?
Chapter on Facing the Qiblah
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If a blind person or a Muqallid is a traveler, lacks someone to inform them, and lacks a Mujtahid to follow, the apparent view of Al-Khiraqi is that repetition is obligatory, whether they were correct or incorrect in their direction, because they prayed without evidence. This is analogous to a Mujtahid praying without performing Ijtihad.

Abu Bakr held that they pray according to their situation, and there are two narrations concerning repetition: one states repetition is required as mentioned above; the second states no repetition is due because they fulfilled what they were commanded to do, resembling a Mujtahid, and because they are incapable of doing otherwise, which excuses them like others incapable of facing the Qibla. Ibn Hamid stated that repetition is required if they erred, and there are two opinions if they were correct. The ruling for a Muqallid lacking sight is the same as one who is blind.
