Primary text

If the sun rises while a person is engaged in the Dawn prayer, the prayer must be completed. This is established by the explicit text of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as narrated by Abu Hurairah: "If one of you catches one prostration (sujood) of the Asr prayer before the sun sets, let him complete his prayer, and if one of you catches one prostration of the Dawn prayer before the sun rises, let him complete his prayer." This Hadith is agreed upon (Muttafaqun Alayh) and its explicit nature takes precedence over general principles.

The companions of Al-Ra'y (Ahl al-Ra'y) hold that the prayer is invalidated because it has entered the prohibited time for prayer.
