What is the ruling concerning the ambiguous hermaphrodite (al-Khuntha al-Mushkil) regarding covering the private parts?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The ambiguous hermaphrodite is ruled upon like a man. This is because covering what exceeds the area of a man's private parts is merely probable. Therefore, a ruling is not necessitated upon him based on a probable and uncertain matter. This ruling is based on the principle that certainty is not overridden by probability.

The alternative view states that the private parts requiring covering are the two openings present in his groin. This is because one of them is a genuine private part, and he cannot cover it with certainty except by covering both. Consequently, covering both becomes obligatory, similar to how covering what is near the private parts is necessitated for the purpose of covering the private parts themselves.
