What is the ruling if the Imam recites too quietly during a portion requiring audible recitation?

If the Imam recites too quietly during a portion where loud recitation is prescribed, he must repeat the recitation because he has failed to fulfill an established characteristic (Sunnah) of the recitation that he was capable of performing, and he prevented the followers from hearing the recitation.
