Primary text

Regarding the Imamate of one whose hands are amputated, there are two reported opinions. The first opinion validates his Imamate, chosen by Al-Qadi, because the amputation is a physical inability that does not invalidate an essential pillar of the prayer, similar to the amputation of one leg or the nose. The second opinion invalidates the Imamate, chosen by Abu Bakr, because it compromises prostration upon some of the necessary parts of the body for prostration, resembling one unable to prostrate upon the forehead.

Supporting text

The ruling concerning one whose one hand is amputated is the same as the ruling for one whose both hands are amputated.
