What is the ruling when one's Ijtihad regarding Qibla ceases without a definite new direction being established?

If the initial Ijtihad remains but the inclination or belief toward the first direction is lost, and no other direction is established through Ijtihad, the person builds upon what was already performed in the prayer, as no other direction has become apparent for them to face.
