What is the ruling on performing the Adhan in a melodious or modulated manner (Mulahhan)?

There are two views on a melodious Adhan. The first view states that it is valid because the objective (notification) is achieved, making it equivalent to the unmodulated form. The second view states it is invalid, based on the narration reported by Al-Daraqutni, via his chain, from Ibn Abbas, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had a caller whose Adhan was melodious, whereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The Adhan is easy and smooth; if your Adhan is easy and smooth, otherwise, do not perform the Adhan.'
