What is the ruling on performing prostration (Sujud) for naked individuals praying while seated (Qu'ood)?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
There are differing narrations from Ahmad regarding naked individuals praying seated. One narration states they should only make a gesture (Ima') for bowing and prostration, as the standing requirement is waived to preserve their modesty, and showing the private parts during prostration is more indecent, necessitating its omission. Another narration states they must perform prostration on the ground because prostration is more emphasized than standing, being an end in itself, and it is not waived in cases where standing is waived, such as voluntary prayer (Nafl). This indicates that prostration is not omitted.
Supporting text
There is also difference in narration from Ahmad regarding standing. One report suggests naked people pray standing, as he stated their Imam stands in their middle. Another narration mentioned by Al-Athram suggests that if they partially conceal each other, they pray standing, which is permissible. A statement attributed to Ahmad, "Sujud is indispensable," supports that prostration is not waived.
