What is the ruling on praying in a dung heap (Al-Hash)?
Chapter on Praying with Impurity and Other Matters
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The ruling prohibiting prayer in a dung heap is established by analogy (Tanbih). Since prayer is forbidden in places that are likely locations of impurity (like camel resting places), the prohibition applies even more strongly to a dung heap, as it is specifically intended and prepared for waste.

Some scholars state that if the person praying knows of the prohibition in these places, the prayer is invalid because the act is sinful and cannot constitute worship. If the person is ignorant, there are two opinions: one holds the prayer is invalid, analogous to praying in an impure place, and the other holds it is valid due to being excused.
