What is the ruling on raising one's voice during Quran recitation in the mosque during I'tikaf (seclusion)?
Chapter on the Times When Prayer is Prohibited
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is prohibited for one person to raise their voice over another during recitation or prayer, as this constitutes annoying a fellow worshipper. The Prophet demonstrated this when he heard people reciting loudly during I'tikaf in the mosque, uncovering the partition and stating, "Indeed, every one of you is communing with his Lord, so let no one annoy the other, and let no one raise his voice above another in recitation or in prayer." This ruling is supported by the narration of Abu Sa'id.
