What is the ruling regarding following the opinion of another (taqleed) in matters of worship?
Chapter on Facing the Qiblah
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
Taqleed is permissible for one who cannot derive rulings through independent reasoning (*ijtihad*), either due to blindness or due to being a layman (*aami*) unable to learn and perform prayer based on his own understanding before the prayer time expires. For those capable of understanding, learning the necessary jurisprudence is obligatory; prayer performed by following another before this learning is invalid because they could have performed it via *ijtihad* but chose *taqleed*, similar to a qualified jurist (*mujtahid*).
